Jackson Hole Summer Activities- May Celebrations

Jackson Hole Summer Activities

As the temperatures start to rise and the trees start sprouting leaves, we at Inn on the Creek get excited to celebrate the approaching summer season.  There are a few long-standing events at the beginning of the Jackson Hole Summer Activities list that everyone looks forward to being a part of every year.

On May 20th, the opening of the Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for the summer season is the first sign of summer.  While everything else in the village remains quiet, you can head to the top of Rendezvous Mountain for 360 degree views of Jackson Hole, the Tetons, and Idaho.  Expect to find some snow at the summit in May!

Elkfest is one of the most famous events held in Jackson every year.  This weekend of activities centers around the Elk Antler Auction, which is held on May 20th.  In the late spring the local Boy Scout Troop helps the Elk Refuge staff harvest the antlers the elk herd shed.  They auction the antlers off on the town square to people who travel from all over the world to bid on them.  Some of their future uses include decorations, furniture, and jewelry.  The Boy Scouts donate a large portion of the proceeds back to the Refuge.  On Sunday, May 21st, there is the High Noon Chili Cookoff.  We recommend arriving hungry and preparing to be wowed by this competition between local amateur and professional chili cooking teams.

If you find yourself spending Memorial Day weekend in Jackson Hole, then get ready to celebrate Old West Days.  On Saturday, May 27th, enjoy the parade winding it’s way through downtown to the square.  On the square you will find the Old West Brew Fest being held from 11am-5pm.  Here, more than 12 local and regional breweries gather for people to trade tokens for samples of their beer.  Votes are cast and the winning brewery will receive the coveted Golden Boot Award.  The Old West Brew Fest is a favorite annual event for locals, and shouldn’t be missed if you are in Jackson.  If you want the full western experience, then head to the Teton County Fairgrounds Saturday evening for the first rodeo of the 2017 season.  This is no show, but a real-deal rodeo where children and adults compete in traditional rodeo events.

Another fun way to kick off the summer season is a visit to Snow King Resort in Jackson.  They will open May 26th for the summer with activities for everyone, including:

  • The Alpine Slide
  • Cowboy Coaster
  • Mini golf
  • The Treetop Adventure

We here at the Inn on the Creek can’t wait for summer to arrive, and we are thrilled that these early Jackson Hole Summer Activities are right around the corner!
