While vacationing in Jackson Hole, Wy this summer, add boating across Jenny Lake and hiking to Inspiration Point to your must do list. This is one of our favorite activities to recommended to our guests here at Inn on the Creek. Jenny Lake is famous for its amazing mountain views, and it is a perfect destination for hikers of all abilities. Park at the South Jenny Lake lot, 8 miles from the Moose Entrance to Grand Teton National Park. This is one of the most popular areas in the park, so we recommend an early start to get a spot. There is a visitor center that includes a bookstore, restrooms and general store with the boat house being just a short walk around the lake.
The trip across the lake is less than 10 minutes, with a boat leaving every 20 minutes. The Jenny Lake boat ride cost $12 per adult and $6 per child. The boat drops off at the mouth of Cascade Canyon with magnificent views of Teewinot Mountain (12,325 ft.). It’s a .9 mile one way hike to Inspiration Point with an elevation gain of 417 ft.
The trail follows Cascade Creek as it meanders up to the falls. Hidden Falls is just a short detour off the main trail about .3 miles into the hike. This is a great spot to take a break and soak up the beauty of Cascade Creek falling 200 feet.
Continue on the original trail another .6 miles to reach Inspiration Point. At an elevation of 7,200 feet, the point is 500 feet above Jenny Lake and offers amazing views of the valley below and across to the Gros Ventre Mountains.
