Jackson Hole Wyoming Activities National Elk Refuge

This is the time of year when our four-legged visitors start to arrive. Thousands of elk come down from the surrounding mountains to winter at the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole Wyoming. Just a few blocks from the Inn on the Creek, this area is accessible by people during the winter months by sleigh.

Starting at the Jackson Hole Wyoming Visitor Center, travelers can book a sleigh ride throughout the day. From there, they are taken a short ride by bus to the horse-drawn sleighs. Climbing on board, guests are encouraged to take lots of photos, chat with the sleigh driver, and use binoculars to view wildlife along the ride. Drivers take the sleigh on a different route each time depending on where the elk are congregated. Used to horses and the sleigh, elk barely seem to notice when visitors pull up alongside them. If you are lucky, your group might spot a bald eagle, coyote, or a group of bull elk. Whenever you visit during the winter, there’s always something happening on the refuge.
