Jackson Hole Summer Activities- Exploring Northern GTNP

While playing tour guide to some visiting family, our Innkeeper Lindsey and her family spent a wonderful day exploring the northern portion of Grand Teton National Park, our featured Jackson Hole Summer Activities this week. The spectacular northern view of the Tetons is reason enough for heading there, trust us.

After a delicious breakfast at the Inn, hit the road north to Colter Bay. Start the day off with a hike from the Hermitage Point Trail Head. Park near the Colter Bay Marina and find the trail head located in the southeast part of the lot. There is a nice network of trails that offer something for everyone. There is minimal elevation gain on these great hikes with maximum mountain views. As you head down the trail, you will come to Swan Lake after only 1 mile. A blanket of lily pads with yellow blooms covers this small lake. You will spot trumpeter swans, beaver dens and dragon flies galore!

Beautiful yellow flowers are just starting to bloom.

Just a short ways further, you come to Heron Pond, which is a terrific spot for a water and snack break. At this point you can take the trail back north which creates a short loop and a perfect beginner’s hike. The other option is great for the more advanced hiker, which is to head onto Hermitage Point. The trail takes you to the end of a peninsula of Jackson Lake with a breath-taking view of the Tetons, just over 8 miles round trip.

All that hiking surely has created quite a hunger. Just a short drive north is Leek’s Marina and Pizzeria and is a terrific place for a pizza lunch. Dine on your pizza on their deck and enjoy amazing views.

After hiking and dining in the sun, it will feel good to get out on Jackson Lake. Rent kayaks or canoes at Leek’s or Colter Bay Marinas by the hour and cruise around the lake.

Finish off your day of exploring northern Grand Teton National Park by having dinner at Jackson Lake Lodge. The lodge has different dining options for you to try from casual to fine dining. The sliders on their patio with a local beer cannot be beat!

As the sun is setting over the Tetons as you drive back to the Inn on the Creek, so ends another day filled with terrific Jackson Hole Summer Activities.
