Casey and Amy’s Recommendations:

  • Get an early start- There will be many other folks hitting the road up to Yellowstone, so getting an early start will get you ahead of the crowd. Coffee is on at 7am at Inn on the Creek and breakfast starts at 8pm. Grab a cup of joe, pack up the car and grab a seat at the breakfast table at 8am. Fuel up for your day of exploring with our full, delicious breakfast and good conversation with fellow guests. Now you’re ready to hit the road and it’s only 8:15/ 8:30 and your ahead of the crowd.
  • Pack your Picnic- There is a wonderful deli, Creekside Market and Deli, located right on the way out of Jackson. Order your sandwich with us at the Inn the night before to avoid waiting. We also supply little coolers to keep your goodies cold and folding camp chairs so you can picnic anywhere your heart desires and avoid congested designated picnic sights.

  • Drive counterclockwise through the park- Most folks visiting Yellowstone from Jackson will drive around the lower loop road of the park and are able to see the major highlights. The typical visitor will turn left onto the lower loop at West Thumb and bee-line it to Old Faithful driving around the loop clockwise. To avoid the herd, turn right at West Thumb and drive the loop counterclockwise. This will put you on a different schedule then the other visitors and get you out of the parade. Below is the do not miss stops and the order you will be visiting them.

1. Yellowstone Lake Hotel- This beautiful historic building is definitely worth stopping in. Grab a coffee or tea from their cafe and enjoy it with views of the lake.

2. Canyon Village- The upper and lower falls of the Yellowstone River are quite the sight! Many trails and overlooks in the area enable you to enjoy the majestic beauty of the falls.

3. The Geyser Basin- There are numerous pull outs along this stretch of road to stroll the boardwalks surrounded by geysers.

4. Old Faithful- Saving Old Faithful for last enables you to really enjoy this wonder without feeling rushed to see the rest of the park. Explore the boardwalks around Old Faithful and the lodges. Grab a refreshment at the 2nd floor bar that overlooks Old Faithful.

Now you can head back to the Inn on the Creek with lots of memories, tons of pictures and happily exhausted. Just another amazing day during your vacation full of Jackson Hole Summer Activities…. life is good here!
